Dr. Reese's true passion is the sport horse, and she loves nothing more than seeing her patients get back to doing what they love, whether its competing in the show ring, enjoying a trail ride, or just living comfortably. She started riding as a kid in Northern California, riding bareback on local trails with the occasional race around the track at the high school. She eventually got a horse, an off-the-track thoroughbred named “Otis”, who she competed with in Eventing, Dressage, and Pony Club events. After graduating from UC Davis twice, first with her B.S and then her D.V.M, Dr. Reese completed a year long internship at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital in San Diego. She moved to Orange County in 2008 and worked in general practice until 2021, when she founded Monarch Equine Sports Medicine. She is also co-founder of 5M Equine Performance Center (formerly Blenheim Equine Rehab), which opened in 2019. Her goal in founding 5M EPC was to create a whole-horse approach to rehabilitation of sport horse injuries. After years of diagnosing and treating athletic injuries in the field, she saw the need for a program where injured horses could be treated, progress through a controlled exercised program that includes appropriate cross-training, and be brought back even stronger while maintaining their mental health. She also envisioned a way for show horses to relax and “be horses” in between shows, giving them a chance to recharge both mentally and physically. When she’s not working on horses, Dr. Reese enjoys Orange Theory fitness and spending time with her kids.
